Do you get exhausted by times when you text kids and they don’t respond? Or send a message to them on Facebook or a tweet, that goes unanswered. Kids are so inundated with Facebook messages, tweets and text messages, that at times they don’t respond because they don’t feel they need to respond.
Here are three creative ways to connect with kids.
Vimessa – This iOS app (iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s only) will let you record a video message and in the app will send a text message to whoever the video message is for. If they don’t have a smart phone, you have the option to send it in an email as well. They will open a link from the text message they receive with your name in the text message. It is a private message that will be available to your Young Life friends. This is a great way to say a quick thank you, ask a question, send a reminder, etc.

Postagram – This iOS app will allow you to take a picture (or one you already have on your phone or you can take one in the app as well) and send them an old fashion postcard of an experience in the mail. Do you have a great picture from camp that you would love to send them or a a funny picture from a club game. They will get a postcard mailed directly to them that they can punch out and keep for themselves. To send a Postagram it will cost you $.99 each, but well worth the price of admission.

FaceTime or Skype – Use this to connect face to face; rather than sending a tweet, text, Facebook message, etc. Both FaceTime and Skype will allow you to have a face to face conversation when you can’t have a face to face conversation in person. We always suggest a face to face meeting before the use of technology. A quick question, a thank you, an encouraging word, a reminder can all be done with a video chat.
- Skype – Skype is a free program for your computer and/or smart phone. It will allow you to video chat with others. You also have the option to use audio only, but we suggest use video first.
- FaceTime – FaceTime is integrated into Apple devices (iPhone 4, iPhone 4s & iPad 2) to do face to face video chats. You can purchase a FaceTime program for your Mac for $.99. You will need to be connected to WiFi to make FaceTime work.
